Candida Question #55 Is Fishy Smell Associated With Yeast Infection?

Not really. You shouldn’t have a fish briny sort of vaginal sort of smell with a yeast infection. A yeast infection smell is more of a musty sort of smell. It can be a cheesy discharge and a lot of itch.

When I think of a fish smell, I’m thinking more about bacterial vaginosis, which tends to have a different type of watery, profuse, gray sort of discharge with that fish brine smell. So you should not really have a fishy smell with a Candida infection. But you can have a strong odor, though, which may be misconstrued as a fish smell, but not really. So I hope that answers your question.

Candida Question #50 Can My Boyfriend Contract Yeast Infection From Me?

He certainly can. I’ve covered this in a previous frequently asked question. If you are female and have a vaginal yeast infection, there is certainly a bigger chance that your boyfriend or partner may contract this. While thrush is not necessarily an STD or a sexually transmitted disease, it can be transferred through sexual contact, oral sexual contact, for example.

So if you are a female and do have a partner and are concerned, make sure that you clear your thrush. At least get it diagnosed to make sure it’s not bacterial vaginosis. It’s really good to try and understand what you’re dealing with, so you’ll be in a better position to eradicate it.

Bacterial vaginosis is very common. I’ve covered that in a previous FAQ as well. But, yes, you can pass a yeast infection on to your boyfriend and he, in turn, can pass it back to you. Something I call pass the parcel. So it’s good to get on top of your vaginal infection sooner rather than later.

What is a vaginal yeast infection? I have a discharge. Could this be a vaginal yeast infection?

Well, in my book I explain in Chapter 5 in detail the difference between the different types of vaginal irritations and conditions that can affect that part of the female anatomy. That’s suffice it to say this area is a perfect breeding ground for a yeast infection. It is warm. It is moist. It is dark and it also has varying levels of secretions in there depending on the hormone level of the female at any given time.

So, it’s very common for females to have a yeast infection at some stage of their life, and most women, in fact, will at some time in their life have a yeast infection.

Generally, these are self-limiting and not a problem. It’s only when they become chronic and recurring that there is something further that needs looking into, and for this reason, I recommend that you have a proper diagnosis to establish whether you have bacterial vaginosis or a yeast infection. In fact, BV or bacterial vaginosis is more common than yeast infection. It involves bacteria and not fungus and is a frothy, fish briny smell, whereas the vaginal Candida albicans will have a more cheesy discharge and have a moldy musky sort of smell.
