Candida Question #4 Can Low Estrogen Cause A Yeast Infection?

Hi, there. Erik Bakker again from Candida Crusher. Here’s FAQ No. 4. This patient prefers to remain anonymous.

Can low estrogen cause a yeast infection?

Yes, absolutely. Having a high or low estrogen level can predispose a female towards a vaginal yeast infection. Estrogen has quite an interesting effect on the vaginal tissue. So when there’s not enough estrogen, the tissue can be quite dry and the person’s much more prone to getting a bacterial or a yeast-related infection.

And if a person has too much estrogen or has too much mucous secretion, they can actually also favor the reproduction of many yeast in this area. Many females will notice an increase in yeast infections before their period or around perimenopause time for this reason when changes in estrogen occur.
So, yes, to answer your question, a low estrogen can cause a yeast infection.

Candida Question #3 Can Yeast Infection Cause Or Possibly Increase Any Allergic Response?

Hello, welcome back to Candida Crusher again. Eric Bakker, Naturopathic Physician. FAQ No. 3. This is an FAQ from Marjorie in Connecticut, USA.

Marjorie’s email here states that she’s been suffering from food allergies and believes she has Candida and wants to know if there is a link.

Well, there certainly is, and in many cases of people with yeast infections, I have found they have a condition known as Leaky Gut Syndrome, which can predispose a person to food allergies.

Not everybody with Candida has Leaky Gut, but certainly many people with food allergies will have a leaky gut. And often leaky gut and Candida and food allergies all seem to belong to the same person, for want of a better word.

So how do you get rid of the allergic response? You get rid of the allergic response by improving the small intestine function. And a key way to do that is to reduce foods which contribute to dysbiosis, to start taking in foods and particular products which are particularly affective in eradicating yeast and bad bacteria, and also to reintroduce beneficial bacteria. But at the same time, understand the very important connection between stress and the gut.

And there’s quite an extensive section in Candida Crusher. I’ve written on this exact topic, which I think is often what I believe is one of the missing links in recovery from a yeast infection. So have a good look in my book and you can read all about leaky gut, food allergies, poor immunity, and particularly recovering from food allergies and how they’re linked up with the yeast infection.
Thank you.

Candida Question #2 Should I Avoid All Fruits On Candida Diet?

Hi, Eric Bakker here again from Candida Crusher. FAQ No. 2. Here’s a question from Gary in Seattle.

Should I avoid all fruits?

This is a good question, Gary, and this is a question I get asked time and again by people both through email and in my consulting room.

I firmly believe that for the first 14 days to 21 days in particular it’s very prudent to avoid most of the sweet fruits, and these generally include oranges; most varieties of apples, which are high in sugar; particularly dried fruits, grapes, figs, foods like that; foods that people generally like to snack on.

I don’t really find them conducive for the initial stages of Candida, but I do recommend that they be reintroduced down the track. Fruits which I find that are generally fine, not a problem, the blueberries and many varieties of berries; they’re quite alkaline and tart. Avocados are fine. Granny Smith apples are fine. Limes are fine. Lemons are fine. Some people can get away with pineapple and another fruit which some can tolerate quite well are grapefruits, particularly if they put one or two drops of grapefruit seed extract with the grapefruit, it’s not a problem. But generally, you need to be cautious with fruit. Now I find some information on the internet goes from avoid all fruits entirely to eat as many fruits as you want.

In my book, Candida Crusher, you’ll find extensive information on fruit consumption, which fruits you can have, which ones are high in fructose, and the best way to reintroduce fruits again in the third phase of my diet, the food reintroduction diet.

So there you go, Gary, I hope that answers your question. Thank you.
