It’s obviously a lot easier to stop something rather than get rid of it once you’ve got it. But even if you have got it, you can get rid of it slowly over a period of time. This is not an infection that’s going to go away in a week or 10 days like a lot of people think. Taking all these ridiculous crash courses of multiple supplements or pharmaceutical drugs is a pretty dumb idea. Because you’ll find it’ll only come back again when you stop that. It will have probably created more damage in the long run rather than working on a reduction over a period time. It makes a lot more sense to me. It’s like your mortgage. You’re not going to pay it off in a year. At the most, it’s going to take several years to pay it. And the clever person will work out a program that they continually chip away at it, pay it off in a set period of time.

How do you prevent SIBO? How do you keep from getting it in the first place? And if you have got it, how can you actually get rid of it slowly over a period of time? I’ve got a list. I’m going to go through a few things with you, and I want you to pay particular attention to what I’ve got to say. You might even want to watch this video once or twice because there is going to be a lot of information you’ll be getting here.

The most obvious thing that you probably want to stop doing immediately if you’re serious about your health is to stop drinking all forms of alcohol. People who drink alcohol – even small amounts – on a regular basis, and we’re talking one glass a week. If you suffer from bloating, gas, food allergies, intolerances, any kind of problem like that, you just need to stop, and you need to stop for as long as it takes. This could be 6 months, could be 12 months, but you need to stop for a long period of time. If you’re not prepared to do that, just hit the “stop” button on this video now and go and watch something else. I really don’t think you’re going to get very far if you think you can drink small amounts and fix your gut up because it’s just not going to happen.

Second thing you need to do is to stop pharmaceutical drug use. This is a very important point that a lot of people probably don’t really understand is that even small amounts of medicines, what we call proton pump inhibitors or drugs that help to stop stomach acid, if you take small amounts of these regularly, you’re never going to get a good digestive function. Because you’re going to block the ability of the stomach to produce these acids. That’s what they do is they inhibit an enzyme that produces the stomach acid, so how crazy is that. How are you going to ever improve your digestive function if you stop the stomach from working properly? It’s a stupid thing to do long term. You need to find the cause of the heartburn, and there is always a cause of the heartburn.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. These are drugs like ibuprofen or aspirin or paracetamol, pain drugs. There are many different names for them. You’ll have many in your country. These drugs have an incredibly powerful effect also on liver function, digestive function; they affect the nervous system in multiple ways. Again, you need to work out why you’re taking these drugs and try to fix the cause rather than just to stop them. Because long-term drug use is not conducive for good health. You can’t prevent or fix a gut problem if you’re taking pharmaceuticals long term. It’s just not going to happen.

Antibiotics. It just goes without question that if you’ve got any kind of digestive problem, you’re crazy to take antibiotics. That’s an absolute crazy idea. Same with the oral contraceptive pill. Same with menopausal pills or any kind of pills like that. It’s best that you re-evaluate and stop them. Statin drugs for cholesterol reduction. They affect the body in multiple ways as well. So all of these medications you need to think carefully why you’re taking them. And if your gut problem is bad, you need to fix it by going to see a doctor and talking about that pharmaceutical drug use.

You need to follow, of course, a SIBO diet. Following my Candida Crusher diet approach is a clever move because it basically is very much in line with what a SIBO diet is. We take out sugars, the refined sugars. We take out starchy foods initially and put them back in. We take out the high allergy forming foods, dairy products, for example, are taken out. My diet is along the lines of the SCD, the specific carbohydrate diet, the GAPS diet, and also the Body Ecology diet. I’ve looked at all of those diets carefully, but I’ve basically formulated my own diet with patients many, many years ago that I think is very much a SIBO kind of a diet. Again, it makes sense to follow the right kind of eating, and also to follow the right kind of eating patterns. As I mentioned in previous videos, chewing food properly, understanding the connection between stress and digestion.

Correct ileocecal valve problems. The ileocecal valve is a value between the cecum and the ilium or the terminal part of the small intestine where it connects to the large intestine. Some people actually have problems in this area. The valve is not working properly or there will be bacteria or yeast living around there, especially if that area is sensitive around here. You can get a sensitivity here, so on this side. It’s on the right side. It could be a problem with the valve. Go and see somebody to get this fixed. There are different kinds of people that can access this and fix it for you, but you need to go and see somebody about this. Sometimes deep tissue massage will help that area. Hot castor oil packs, sauna therapy, detoxification. There are many things you can do to cleanse that area.

Correcting sympathetic dominance. Again, I’ve done some videos previously about the connection between the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system and digestion. These two systems make up what we call the autonomic nervous system. I’ve actually got a chart here to show you. It’s a pretty complicated little chart here. We can see the green on this side is the rest and digest system, and this side is the stress system, the sympathetic system. You can see how these connect up to all the organs.

When we’re in a stressful situation, for example, your heartrate goes up and digestion slows down. Our immune system switches off. The blood supply to our limbs increases and our acute awareness goes right up because we need to understand we’re getting chased by a dinosaur, so we have to run away. When we’ve rested up and the threat is gone, the parasympathetic kicks in. This is the rest and digest. This is the part that we need to initiate to improve SIBO and to help prevent it in the first place.

How do we stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system? There are multiple ways you can do it. Chewing food properly, slowly, breathing very slowly, and learning to breathe very, very slowly. Read some of my articles that I’ve written on ericbakker.com on Buteyko breathing. It’s a very, very powerful way of increasing parasympathetic dominance.

Laughing more or enjoying humor, chewing food, laughing, breathing, also yawning, and stretching out and regular naps and relaxation. These are all ways to increase the rest and digest component of the nervous system. This will improve acidification of the stomach. This will improve the movement of food and stool through the bowel. And this will also improve the ability to pass bowel motions. It’s very clever to do that.

You also need to supplement yourself with some digestive enzymes. This will really help to improve the stomach. And for that reason, I created a product called Canxida Restore. If you go to Canxida.com and check that product out. Canxida Restore has seven different enzymes and six different probiotics mixed together in a very special capsule that will survive the bypass of the stomach and get into the small bowel where it will open up and start working. Particularly important in the small bowel to get that protein, carb, and fat really working well. And that’s what the Canxida Restore will do.

Also, have a look at taking an antifungal to help get rid of the bacteria in the small intestine on a regular basis. That’s my Canxida Remove. It’s a very powerful antifungal/anti-bacterial product I designed just for people with SIBO. It works perfectly for SIBO, IBS, and irritable bowel syndrome. I also use that product for inflammatory bowel syndrome. I use it for food allergies, Candida infections, any of those kinds of problems. Just check it out at Canxida.com.

I hope this video was of use to you today. You got a few bits of knowledge there to help you prevent SIBO in the first place. And if you have got it, just slowly chip away at it to get rid of it over a period of time. Thanks for tuning in.
