Can I get yeast infection from wearing silk underwear?

Hi there, Eric Bakker again, naturopath, author of Candida Crusher with another question I get asked regarding yeast infections.

Can silk underwear cause a yeast infection?

Silk is not really a problem because like Moreno wool, cotton, these are natural fibers that tend to breathe. So I don’t think you’ll really have a problem with silk. However, like any other kind of underclothing, you would need to keep it clean and change it quite frequently.

The underclothing which is not a good idea to wear, however, is nylon or polyester or other kinds of artificial fibers that don’t breathe. They’re going to keep you a lot warmer and increase perspiration, and they don’t breathe and they tend to encourage the proliferation of vaginal infections.

So silk underwear should be okay to use. Lucky you, if you can buy silk underwear. It’s really nice to wear I’ve been told. But Moreno underwear is what I prefer to use. It is a beautiful, very fine woolen fabric that is beautiful to wear. You hardly even know you’re wearing it and it breathes and it’s a fantastic fiber to wear.

So you’ll be fine with silk. I hope that answers your question.
