Can Oregano Oil Help Treat Candida Infection

Greetings. It’s Eric Bakker, naturopath from New Zealand. Author of Candida Crusher and formulator of the Canxida range of dietary supplements. Thank you so much again for checking out this video. I’m not sure if I’ve completed a video on oregano, but I’m going to do this video anyway.

Oregano is one of my favorite herbs when it comes to digestive problems, gut dysfunction, yeast infection, SIBO, leaky gut, inflammatory bowel, irritable bowel, any kind of a gut related condition. I think it’s one of the best herbs you can use. Garlic and oregano are my two top favorites along with grapefruit seed extract. I just think they’re wonderful.

If we look at the historical use of oregano vulgar, the herb called oregano. People in the Mediterranean have use this herb for thousands of years, and they’ve use it alongside thyme, marjoram, basil and rosemary. These herbs all have one thing in common. They all have very interesting effects on the digestive systems and, of course, effects on other parts of the body.

If you think back a long time ago, people never had refrigerators, so how would they store meat? How would they store lamb? Lamb is very popular in the Mediterranean. If you look back, how they stored it was they would kill an animal and they would first consume the digestive organs, the lungs, the heart, the liver and those sorts of things. The animal would be skinned and the meat would be hung up, but they would use herbs often to preserve the meat. Because the herb has very powerful antimicrobial properties about it. Herbs were used to keep meat from spoiling for quite a long period of time and for flavor. But one of the big reasons they used it was to stop the meat from going off and spoiling.

Today, we know that these herbs are a wonderful addition to add to meat dishes like lamb and beef, chicken dishes, they’re really, really good. I’ve been using oregano in cooking now probably for about 30 years. I think it’s a wonderful herb to use. I grow different types of oregano. I grow really spicy hot ones. I grow mild ones. I often will get the herb at its peak in mid-summer when it has a very high oil content. You can smell it. Just around flowering time. Usually just before flowering is when I pick it. I will crush it in big bunches, clean it and crush it up and put it in jars and fill it with olive oil and leave that.

I’ll often also grow lots of tomatoes and then dry them in my dehydrator. I grow six different types of tomatoes. Dehydrate them and I put them large jars packed with artichoke hearts, garlic cloves, roasted bell peppers. Roast those. Put those in there as well. And then sprigs of oregano, sprigs of rosemary, thyme and then put black olives in there. Make large jars up. And then we will leave those typically for three or four months and usually by mid-winter, they taste fantastic. Because you’ve got all that wonderful herb, garlic and flavors of all of those Mediterranean foods coming into the oil. Very nice for pizzas or tapas and things like that that you’re going to eat.

Oregano contains different types of nutrients. Vitamin content, mineral content and also chemicals called phenols. Phenols have a particular property. There are different types of phenols. One is called thymol. One is called carvacrol. Carvacrol is very anti-microbial and some oreganos have got a low carvacrol content. Others have a very high carvacrol content. The carvacrol I tend to use in my oregano in my Candida formula, my Canxida Remove, for example, has a very high grade carvacrol from the Mediterranean. It’s about 60 to 70 percent carvacrol, so it’s quite potent. Many other brands will have a low quantity of the carvacrol, which gives them a lower microbial inhibition.

Other phenols like thymol, for example, tend to be immune boosting. Thymol is found a lot in thyme. Thyme is a very nice herb, which I tend to use a lot for people, especially with respiratory tract infections like coughs or sinus infections. Thyme is great for whooping cough or a cough that’s settled into the chest. Oregano tends to be more antimicrobial with its phenol compounds, so I would tend to use it more for small intestinal bacterial issues. It’s also shown in laboratory use and through studies that oregano oil has a very wide ranging anti-microbial action on parasites, fungi, bacteria, even viruses tend to be affected by oregano. It’s certainly something that you want to have when you’ve got a yeast infection. You can take oregano oil on its own, but I really believe it works best in a compound product alongside garlic with a high allicin content and also the long chain fatty acids like undecylenic acid and caprylic acid.

When you start putting these oils and fatty acids together, you tend to get a much more compound effect on a broad spectrum of multiple Candida species. Many people I see have anything from one to five different Candida species in their gut. They can also have up to 200 or 300 different types of fungi in their gut. Multiple parasites and different kinds of imbalanced bacteria. So taking a compound product, you’re going to have a much better effect on wiping out a wide range of pathogens at the same time. That’s exactly why I created the Canxida Remove formula to contain all of these ingredients in there.

Make sure that oregano is included in your anti-Candida regime. Also try to include oregano in your diet. It’s now March in New Zealand. We’re going into fall or autumn. Pretty soon it will be winter time. But for you guys in the States, the Northern Hemisphere, you’re going into spring, wonderful. I was just recently in America and I really enjoyed Canada, watching all the leaves just coming into spring. Now is a good opportunity for you to go to a garden center and buy some oregano plants and plant them and grow some oregano for summertime. Get some nice big oregano bushes happening and use those in egg dishes, in meat dishes and salads. Be sure to eat oregano in your diet regularly, too. While you’re there, get a big pot, put a couple of thyme plants in there, maybe some basil and grow all these herbs. They’re a wonderful anti-microbial addition to your spring and summer eating regime.

If you’re like me, you want to have them all year around, you do what I do. You preserve them in jars. You can grow large bunches, extract the goodness into the oil, and then use it for salad dressings or cooking. There are different ways you can preserve them. But think about it, you can extend the life of these all year around by doing things like drying them out or making some powdered herbal products for cooking. Either way, make sure that you include oregano into your diet in a supplement form and in an eating form if you’ve got any kind of gut problem.

Can Candida Cause Bad Breath?

Greetings. New Zealand naturopath, Eric Bakker. Author of Candida Crusher and I’m also the formulator of the range called Canxida. Thanks for checking out my video. It’s incredible how many emails I get over the years and also feedback I’m getting on YouTube. When people say, “Help, I’ve got bad breath. What am I going to do? My mouth is stinky. It’s affecting my relationships. I’m really embarrassed. My girlfriend or my boyfriend hates me. I can’t talk to people anymore. I’m staying inside. What am I going to do?”

If you go to sites like WebMD or all these other kind of sites, the Mayo Clinic and stuff like that, you’re going to find three, four or five pages all relating to bad breath. The causes, the treatments, all the potential things. I looked at one site and it talked about rectal cancer or something linked to bad breath. Be careful what you read. I’ll have to do some videos about be careful of Dr. Google because lots of people spend way too much time on the internet trying to find out what’s wrong with them. They go to Symptom Finder. The funniest one was I had a lady who thought she had a rare kind of brain tumor and she found it through Symptom Finder. Talk about that another time.

Bad breath is a condition called halitosis and it affects many different people. Bad breath can range from not so good to “Wow, go away from me. Don’t come near me.” From fecal breath to the point where you’re almost dry retching. I’ve been seeing patients now for some time and I’ve had over the years only a handful of patients. Some are in my room so bad that I just about dry retched. It was like really offensive. Seriously offensive.

The tragedy is many people with seriously bad breath are not even aware of it themselves. Some people have had breath so bad for so long that they’ve become used to this bad breath. A bit like body odor. A bit like dandruff. A bit like certain skin conditions. If you live with something long enough, it becomes part of who you are. It becomes part of your relationship with your body. And your partner may accept it. Your kids may accept it. It’s to the point where you think “Well, it’s normal. I’ve got dandruff like snowflakes all over my clothes. It’s normal. What’s your problem? Nothing wrong with dandruff.” I’ve got a friend like that. Every time I look at him, it’s almost like he’s been out in the snow. I’ve got another friend with breath that’s very offensive. I’ve spoken to him on a few occasions and he said, “There’s nothing wrong with my breath. There really isn’t.” When you pull your head back when someone talks to you, you know it’s pretty stinky.

What causes bad breath? What can we do about it? How can we remedy bad breath? We could set up a YouTube channel on bad breath alone. That’s how many videos I could do on this one particular topic. This will be one of a couple of videos I’ll eventually do on bad breath. Halitosis has many different causes as I mentioned. They can range from things like medications you take, foods you eat, gum disease. It could be a sinus problem. You could have issues with your stomach. There could be lots of different causes.

But the key thing that I’d like you to do if you’re watching this and you’ve got bad breath is to ask people to be very open and honest with you, family members and friends. Give people a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being like “back off,” “don’t come near this person,” to 1 being “okay.” Get them to put on a sliding scale from 1 to 10 what they think your breath is like. It’s good for people to be honest with you and for you to understand to what degree your breath could be affecting other people.

The second thing to do is to find out what is causing this bad breath. How many people in the family have got it? How many people around you have it? It could be a certain type of infectious reason why you’ve got it. The main thing is get your teeth checked out. Go to the dentist and find out what’s wrong with your mouth, if there is anything. Have you got gum disease? Have you been to a dental hygienist? Have you got any bleeding gums, any loose teeth, root canals, bridges, caps or anything with your teeth that could be suspect? That’s the very first thing that you check out. Root canals are a very big one because many people have anywhere between 1 to 5 or even more root canals. They can become really stinky and toxic in the mouth. It’s important.

Yeast infection in the mouth is not that uncommon, especially denture wearers. I’ve seen quite a bit of oral yeast infections. Look at the tongue. The tongue should be a nice clear color. There can be a slight white film on the tongue for healthy people when they wake up in the morning. But if the tongue is cracked down the center, if it’s scalloped down the sides, if it’s got huge white patches down the back, that can be a big problem. The tongue is a very good indicator of digestive health. Many different civilizations throughout the millennia have looked at tongues for a diagnosis. The Chinese and the Indians, Ayurvedic medicine, very big on tongue diagnosis.

I can remember when I was a kid, the doctor always looked at your tongue. They got this stick out. I remember I used to think it was like one of those big ice cream sticks. They put the tongue depressor in and they’d say, “Go, Ahhh.” And then they look at your tonsils, your tongue and everything. But they don’t do that so much anymore. That’s a good indicator of oral health, but also gut health. I believe your stomach plays a big role in what’s happening in your mouth. Many times I’ve actually people improve the odor from their mouth just by digestive enzymes alone. You can take a good probiotic enzyme formula and that can have a huge impact on your oral hygiene.

A couple of tips and tricks for you. Make sure you chew food properly. Make sure you brush your teeth regularly, at least two if not three times per day if you’ve got bad breath. Floss your teeth regularly. Get your teeth checked out. Make sure that you’re eating a whole foods diet and not some crappy McDonald’s diet. Every time you have a drink, you have a sip of Coca Cola. That’s not going to do a lot for your gut is it? What you eat will dictate to a big degree what you look like, how you feel, and also your gut health. Eating good foods and especially whole foods, you’ll have a lot less chance of having stinky breath. If you’re going to rely on nuggets, burgers, fries and Coke with meals two or three times a day, you’re probably going to end of up stinky and fat and have a lot of associate health problems.

Tea tree oil toothpaste is quite a nice one to use. Baking soda on a clean toothbrush can help quite a lot, too. Please keep away from those alcohol mouth rinses. I think they’re really crap for the mouth. They kill off the bacteria. Do you wash your whole body down in a bottle of methylated spirits when go have a shower? Do you do that? Do you get a half a gallon of methylated spirits and pour it over your head? That’s what you’re doing with your mouth with those oral rinses. I think they’re crap. I can’t understand why people use mouth rinses. When you’ve got a healthy diet like I have, you chew food properly, you’ve got good dental health, your breath smells quite sweet. There’s no stink and you don’t mind being around other people when they’re like that. Nothing worse than having offensive breath.

Try the probiotics. Try the enzymes. It’s going to help you quite a lot. Another one that you may want to try is zinc lozenges. Zinc and vitamin C because they can really add to the oral health as well. Those are just a couple of tips for you to try to get your head around the bad breath. But the investigation is the important part. Go and talk to your doctor or naturopath about the bad breath. It’s important for your practitioner to have a good examination of your lifestyle and diet to see where the potential is, the causes. Because I can tell you now, if you nail this cause, the stinky breath will go away. That’s going to really increase your confidence. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen over the years with bad breath that cost them their relationship, their occupation, everything. All because of the odor coming from the mouth. It’s not pleasant. Food for thought. Think about it. Thanks for tuning in.

Best Way To Treat Hiatus Hernia

Greetings. New Zealand naturopath, Eric Bakker, author of Candida Crusher. Thanks for checking out my video. I have a request from my YouTube subscriber to my Candida Crusher channel regarding hiatus hernia. Eric, can you please explain about hiatus hernia and also the natural treatment for it? What’s the most effective way to remedy this problem? I’ve got it pretty bad.

Hiatus hernia is actually not that uncommon. It tends to occur more in people like my age, 50 plus. Many people who have this problem, in fact, are not really sure what they’ve got. I think they’ve got a nerve or acid stomach. They think that they have heartburn or reflux. Let’s have a look at what a hiatus hernia is.

When we chew food and swallow it, it goes through the mouth into the esophagus into the stomach. But to do so, it has to pass through this thick area of muscle called the diaphragm. The diaphragm is a powerful part of the body that really helps the lungs to work properly and helps the lung to expand. It’s a very important part of respiration or breathing. The esophagus is a hollow tube then it goes through this big piece of thick muscle, the diaphragm. All a hiatus hernia is is basically the stomach being displaced and coming up into the esophageal region. Now, what happens is you can have some stomach acid coming back up through the diaphragm, so the bottom part of the esophagus giving like reflex or reflux disease or GERD or heartburn. It can be really uncomfortable for some people.

But there are other causes also naturally. They call hiatus hernia “the great mimic” of that condition. People who’ve got it may think, as I mentioned, that they’ve’ got something wrong with their stomach. Some people may think they’re getting a heart attack, in fact. Thinking “Oh, my god. I’ve got pain in the chest. Quick, call the doctor. I’m dying of a heart attack.”
Why does it occur? How does it occur? It tends to occur more in women than men. It tends to occur in older people. I’ve seen it in more unfit people, larger people, people that carry quite a bit of weight. People who tend to keep in good physical shape, eat the right kind of food and don’t stress so much have much less a problem with hiatus hernia. Some people also believe that it can be from repressed emotions, being peeved off or angry or I can’t stomach this anymore. Things like that. I certainly believe that there will be some kind of emotional component to some people’s presentation of it.

Under acid stomach is very common. In fact, I’m going to do some videos on hypochlorhydria. Where a person has not enough production of digestive enzymes or hydrochloric acid. That can mimic itself like an overproduction and give heartburn. There are certain ways we can fix hiatus hernia up and keep it under control.

One thing I’d like you to consider if you’ve got it and you’ve been diagnosed with it is you take up breathing, is to learn how to breathe properly. How to activate your vagus nerve properly. How to really use the diaphragm properly. By seeing an expert Buteyko practitioner and you can find them in America by going to the Buteyko website and look for a registered professional. We’ve got them in New Zealand, Australia. We’ve got them Europe. We’ve got them in the USA. These people are going to help you immensely if you’ve got a hiatus hernia.

A couple of years ago, I started searching online for a technique that would really help my patients. And I found an interesting YouTube video by a Dr. David Williams, but there are many other videos you can similarly see. I’m going to demonstrate that technique right now. It’s quite a simple technique. What we’re going to try to do is we’re going to try to relax the diaphragm and we’re going to try to make the hole a little bit bigger. I’m going to show you in a minute and then we’re going to try to force that diaphragm down a little bit and then tighten that area up again. If you do this exercise every single day and you continue it on for quite a few weeks and months and also learn how to breathe properly through Buteyko and understand the connection with eating the right kind of food and learn to back off the stress, you should be able to reverse this thing naturally and get it in check. You should not have to remain on acid blocking medication for the rest of your life like your doctor leads you to believe.

It’s a pretty dumb thing to keep medication to block stomach acid when a simple technique like I’ll show you can give you enormous relief from this condition. I want you to stand up. The first thing we’re going to do, which I’m not going to do, but I’ll show you is you get a glass. In this case, it’s a cup. Then you’re going to put probably about half to three quarters of water in the glass. You don’t have to have the water too hot, but reasonably warm water. You’re going to drink that water.

Then you’re going to relax for a minute and just breathe in and out and try to do a little bit of belly breathing. Then you’re going to lift the hands up. Then what we’re going here is we’re bringing the diaphragm up a little bit and we’re opening the hole there by doing this. What we’re going to do now when we’ve done that, we’ve got the hands in this position, and we’ve got that water in our stomach to relax our stomach. Put a bit of weight in there is you can just do a bit of gentle dropping on the ground like I’m doing now. Now, some breathing again. What we’re trying to do now is activate the diaphragm and close that hole off a little bit.

What I’ve just shown you there is a very simple technique to relax the diaphragm, expand it, put a bit of weight in the tummy and then with gravity, pull that tummy down and just hopefully close the diaphragm off properly. With proper breathing control, when you learn how to master breathing properly, nasal breathing, belly breathing, never mouth breathing, which is the essence of Buteyko and slowing your rate of breath right now. You’re going to master the ability to control hiatus hernia naturally. I can almost certainly guarantee within six months of doing this, you’re going to rarely be bothered by GERD again. Give it a go.

Don’t forget to subscribe to this channel. Lots of tips like that. And the other one is click on the link below in the description box and you can get a free Candida report. Thanks for tuning in.
